It’s officially Gasparilla Season! Tampa’s month (or so) long celebration of all things pirate. The big invasion/party is this weekend all over downtown, but the Art Festival, Marathon, Music Festival, etc. etc goes on the rest of February & into March! Have a happy and safe time this weekend, don’t be shy about using public transportation & pack a lot of patience and common sense to bring along to the festivities! Arrrgggg!!
Events are scheduled at most venues throughout downtown. Parking will be at a premium and ride share will be at surge levels all weekend. If you haven’t tried it, a bike ride into downtown can be fun and really enable your movement. Here’s the main schedule:
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Gasparilla Invasion
2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Gasparilla Parade of Pirates
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. – Gasparilla Stage Performances (Live music and entertainment before, during and after the parade at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park)
FOLK & KUMQUATS
If you are looking to get out of town during the Gasparilla festivities, check out the Dade City Annual Kumquat Festival! Quaint family fun of “old Florida” a car & truck show, pie competition & variety of delicious food!
The Foggy Longbritches Folk Festival is happening all weekend at the Sparacia Witherell Family Winery in Brooksville. There are some serious players slated for this concert if you are into the folk Americana scene.
ROLLIN MULLET ANNIVERSARY
Happy anniversary to the unique “party in the rear” bar, the Rolling Mullet! They opened their doors last Jan 23rd & have been accommodating neighbors and their furry friends ever since. The Rollin’ Mullet is celebrating its 1st birthday on Sunday January 28th with lots of fun and surprises! Come raise a glass to one of our favorite venues in the Heights! (BTW, parking is limited, but I’ve always found parking by scooter & bike)!
